In the first hostage scenario you’re presented with, you can let the hostage get killed, or you can try to save him, in which case he dies anyways. The choices you are asked to make start out simple and become darker and more difficult as the game progresses. This adds a level of agency on your part, deepening the emotional impact of the scenario. And even then, it’s not a matter of pressing a button but of acting out your choice via the game mechanics (shooting, for example) that you’re already familiar with. B decision, but it allows you to make additional choices outside that decision tree. Here, the game presents what appears to be a simple A vs. I’m not sure if it’s actually possible to free both, but the game reacts to that decision, and your crew will try to shoot out the ropes as well. However, you can instead to kill neither and try to free them both. You are asked to execute either a thief or a soldier who killed his family by shooting out the ropes from which they’re hanging. There’s so much I could cover here, but the element I want to focus on for this specific retrospective is how the game uses choice.įor instance, there’s a point in the game where you see two people hanging by their hands from ropes. I actually helped write a group paper on Spec Ops: The Line at the end of a games journalism class in college, so this is a game I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about. Even so, I had my own perspective while studying this game. Of course, my own experience is going to be biased from that introduction, as this breakdown very clearly influenced my perspective.

(Line width is not considered in court dimensions given here.) 1-inch (25 mm) white lines form the scoring triangle and further divide the triangle into the separate scoring zones. The court surface is usually a uniform dark green lines are 1 inch wide except for the mid-shooting area. Behind the scoring zone is the 10-off zone, an area 1½ feet deep. Each scoring zone comprises an isosceles triangle 6 feet × 9 feet with the short edge away from the shooter. Typically a scoring zone is painted at each end of the court to reduce set-up time between games. Court description ĭimensions of a floor shuffleboard court can vary to suit available space, but an official shuffleboard court is 6 feet (1.8 m) wide by 39 feet (12 m) in length plus a 6-foot (1.8 m) shooting area at each end. Ties are broken by playing extra frames (two for singles, four for doubles). There is also the 'first to 75-points' game. The winner of the game may be the first to reach any total decided upon, or may be the higher score after playing a certain number of frames (e.g. Players (or teams of two players, one at each end) take turns going first during a game, so that the advantageous last shot of a frame (the hammer) also alternates between players. Both players' good disks are added to their respective scores. The scoring diagram is divided by lines, into six scoring zones, with the following values: 10, 8, 8, 7, 7, 10-off.Īfter eight disks (four per team, taking alternating shots) have been played from one end of the court (a frame), the final score values of disks for each player (or team) in the scoring zones is assessed: If a disk is completely within a scoring zone without touching (overlapping) any part of the border-line of the zone, it is good and that zone value is added to the correct player's score for the frame, and then to the player's total points. The disks themselves are of two contrasting colors (usually yellow and black), each color belonging to a player or team. In deck or floor shuffleboard, players use a cue ( cue-stick), to push their colored disks, down a court (a flat floor of concrete, wood or other hard material, marked with lines denoting scoring zones), attempting to place their disks within a marked scoring area at the far end of the court. Its miniaturized tabletop variant is very popular in bars and pubs. Today, due to its popularity on cruise ships, in retirement homes and companies (such as Arm ) because of its low physical fitness requirements, the deck game is often associated with the elderly, though it is increasingly popular among younger generations. Historically, the ancient shovelboard, about which little is known, appears to have diverged into modern shuffleboard and sjoelen, and with the former leading to the development of both table shuffleboard and shove ha'penny. In its goals, form and equipment, shuffleboard shares various features with (and perhaps influences by or upon) many other games, including air hockey, bowls, bocce, curling, croquet, carrom and billiards. The game was played and gambled over by King Henry VIII of England, who prohibited commoners from playing evidently he did not always win, as the record of royal expenses for 1532 shows a payment from the Privy Purse of GB£9, "Paied to my lord Wylliam for that he wanne of the kinges grace at shovillaborde" (today's spelling: "Paid to Lord William, for he won, by the king's grace, at shovelboard"). However there is no dispute concerning its age as a form of popular amusement, and in Europe has a history that goes back over 500 years. Inevitably, this uncertainty gives rise to some debate, even disagreement, about which country can claim to have invented it. Though there is some knowledge of its development, its actual origins, the place and date where it was first played, remain a mystery. The full history of shuffleboard is not known. As a more generic term, it refers to the family of shuffleboard-variant games as a whole. Shuffleboard (more precisely deck shuffleboard, and also known as shuffleboard ) is a game in which players use cues to push weighted discs, sending them gliding down a narrow court, with the purpose of having them come to rest within a marked scoring area. Measles may lead to irritation and swelling (inflammation) of the airways (croup). One of the most common complications of measles is a bacterial ear infection. Diarrhea and vomiting can result in losing too much water from the body (dehydration). If you don't have enough vitamin A in your diet, you're more likely to have more-severe symptoms and complications of measles. If you travel to countries where measles is more common, you're at higher risk of catching measles. If you haven't had the measles vaccine, you're much more likely to get measles. About 90% of people who haven't had measles or been vaccinated against measles will become infected when exposed to someone with the measles virus. Measles is highly contagious from about four days before to four days after the rash appears. You can get the measles virus by putting your fingers in your mouth or nose or rubbing your eyes after touching the infected surface. The infectious droplets may also land on a surface, where they can live and spread for several hours. The infectious droplets can hang in the air for about an hour. When someone with measles coughs, sneezes or talks, infectious droplets spray into the air, where other people can breathe them in. Measles is caused by a virus found in the nose and throat of an infected child or adult. This means it's very easily spread to others. As other symptoms of the illness go away, the cough and darkening or peeling of the skin where the rash was may stay for about 10 days. The rash gradually fades first from the face and last from the thighs and feet. The measles rash may last about seven days. At the same time, the fever rises sharply, often as high as 104 to 105.8 F (40 to 41 C). Over the next few days, the rash spreads down the arms, chest and back, then over the thighs, lower legs and feet. Spots and bumps in tight clusters give the skin a splotchy red appearance. The rash is made up of small red spots, some of which are slightly raised. This relatively mild illness may last 2 to 3 days.Īcute illness and rash. Judgment Night is one of those movies where the soundtrack managed to eclipse the actual film that inspired it. Released in the autumn of 1993 it quickly died a death in theatres after a shooting during a screening in Boston that the alarmist press decided to blame on the movie itself (and here we are all these years later still mired in this nonsense). It was pulled from distribution and later, slowly, found a life on home video. Using the rap-meets-alternative Judgment Night soundtrack as a blueprint, the soundtrack to. I got a quick yes, and the plot was in motion. It wasn’t long before we were Googling the team’s 2016/2017 season schedule and when we saw that Ron’s favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys, was coming to town in October, I shot a text to a friend with Packers season tickets asking if he’d be willing to part with those. Kirk Bell, a Wisconsin native who now lives in Chicago and writes for The Car Connection and the communications director from Toyota expressed their desire to do the same. So how did I end up at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison on a Saturday night watching the 8th ranked Wisconsin Badgers take on the 2nd Ranked Buckeyes from Ohio State, then in Lambeau Field on Sunday afternoon taking in the 3-1 Packers versus the 4-1 Cowboys? Is there such a thing as too much football? Thanks to Toyota, after spending a weekend at two iconic stadiums witnessing two great rivalries, I can unequivocally say the answer to that question is “no.” The school's first director was Robert Gerwig, the later founder of the Black Forest and Gotthard Railroad Lines. The company is reported to be the major commercial sponsor for the reality TV show Duck Dynasty and has garnered attention for taking a stand supporting show "patriarch" Phil Robertson. In 2009, the company formed an alliance with Cal Ripken Jr.'s Ripken Baseball, including providing uniforms for the minor league Aberdeen IronBirds and youth teams participating in the Cal Ripken World Series. It has since opened several specialty stores and factory outlet locations in Canada, China, and 39 states including the opening of its first Brand House in Baltimore in 2013 and second Brand House in Tyson's Corner, Virginia. In late 2007, Under Armour opened its first full-line full-price retail location at the Westfield Annapolis mall in Annapolis, Maryland. The same year, the company launched its first television commercial, which centered on their motto, "Protect this house." The company had its IPO on the NASDAQ in November 2005, raising $153m of capital. In 2003, private equity firm Rosewood Capital invested $12 million into the company. The following year, Under Armour became the outfitter of the new XFL football league. Leveraging the release of Any Given Sunday, Plank purchased an ad in ESPN The Magazine, which generated close to $750,000 in sales. Under Armour received its first big break in 1999 when Warner Brothers used Under Armour in two of its feature films, Oliver Stone's Any Given Sunday and The Replacements. In 1997, Plank had $100,000 in orders to fill and found a factory in Ohio to make the shirts. By the end of 1996, Under Armour had sold 500 Under Armour HeatGear shirts, generating $17,000 for the company. That year, Under Armour launched several new apparel lines including ColdGear, TurfGear, AllseasonGear, and StreetGear. Contracts with NC State, Arizona State, and other Division I football teams followed. Under Armour's first major sale came when an equipment manager from Georgia Tech requested 10 shirts from Plank. People began to take notice of the brand when a front-page photo of USA Today featured Oakland Raiders quarterback Jeff George wearing an Under Armour mock turtleneck. Plank opted to use the British spelling " armour" in the company name because the toll-free vanity number was still available for that version. Major competing brands including Nike, Adidas and Reebok would soon follow with their own moisture-wicking apparel. Plank soon improved the design, creating a new T-shirt built from microfibers that wicked moisture away. After graduating from the University of Maryland, Plank developed his first prototype of the shirt, which he gave to his Maryland teammates and friends who had gone on to play in the NFL. This inspired him to make a T-shirt using moisture-wicking synthetic fabric. Īs a fullback at the University of Maryland, Plank got tired of having to change out of the sweat-soaked T-shirts worn under his jersey however, he noticed that his compression shorts worn during practice stayed dry. From his grandmother's Washington, D.C.-area rowhouse, Plank moved to Baltimore. His first team sale came at the end of 1996 with a $17,000 sale. He spent his time traveling along the East Coast with nothing but apparel in the trunk of his car. Plank initially began the business from his grandmother's basement in Washington, D.C. Under Armour was founded on September 25, 1996, by Kevin Plank, a then-24 year old former special teams captain of the University of Maryland football team. New improvements include faster knockdown recovery, more tackling and dizziness, more juggling movements, and new combos launched. Fighters now jump to heights that make more sense than in the previous game, making them less extraordinary and using more bypass dodging because the jumps can no longer avoid ground attacks. While the depth element is insignificant mainly in previous Tekken games (apart from certain characters with unique side steps and avoiding maneuvers), Tekken 3 focuses on the third axis, allowing characters to hide inside or outside the background. Tekken 3 Game for PC maintains the same basic battle system and concepts as its predecessor. It was followed by Tekken 4 in the arcade and PlayStation 2 in 20, respectively. With more than 8 million copies sold worldwide, Tekken 3 is the fourth best-selling PlayStation game. Tekken 3 for PC has been touted as one of the best video games.
